چکیده
این مقاله کوششی است برای ترسیم تصویری نسبتاً کلّی اما تحلیلی، از فن‌آوری اطلاعات، و مفاهیم مربوط به آن، و نیز بررسی اثرات فن‌آوریهای نوین، به ویژه کامپیوتر و امکانات پیشرفته ارتباطی، برخدمات کتابخانه ها ومراکز اطلاعاتی. دراین باره، تأثیر فن‌آوریهای جدید بر مجموعه کتابخانه، فهرستهای کتابخانه‌ای، و نحوه استفاده از کتابخانه بررسی شده و هریک در محیطهای سنّتی و نوین مقایسه می‌شوند. در این مقایسه، معایب و محاسن هریک از فن‌آوریهای سنّتی و نوین در ارتباط با هریک از این خدمات شناسائی شده، و وضعیت قابل پیش‌بینی و واقعگرایانه‌ای از آینده کتابخانه‌ها و مراکز اطلاعاتی ترسیم می‌گردد.

This article is an atte’mpt at illustrating a general, though analytical, view of information technology and its related concepts, as well as investigating the impacts of new technologies, especially computers and advanced communication facilities, on library and information services. Impact of the new technologies is seen on library collections, catalogues, and use. In this respect, comparison is made regarding both traditional and modern environments. Advantages and disadvantages of modern and traditional technologies are identified in relation to each, aspect, i.e., library collections, catalogues, and a realistic and foreseeable picture of the future status of libraries and information centers will be illustrated.
