This paper aimed to study the citation behavior of the students of the school of veterinary medicine at Shahid Chamran University in the period of 1376-1380 using citation analysis which is one of the most important method of scientometric techniques. The core journals in this study were determined and compared with the list of the ISI journals to find out their impact factor ranked. Also the subjects of the studied dissertations were identified and compared with the subject catalogue of the Vet CD database in order to identify the subject areas which were probably less considered.

This article is written on the basis of the results of a study that was conducted to investigate the opinions of the academic staff of the Shahid Chamran University on the degree of conformity of their information needs with the existing libraiy resources and services in this university. The required data were collected by means of a questionnaire that was devised for the purpose of this research. The concept of “information need” and its importance is discussed, as well as the barriers to identification of users’ information needs in a library. Analysis of the data revealed that in view of the academic staff of the SCU, there is little agreement between their information needs and the available resources in libraries. The survey results also revealed that variables such as sex, teaching experience, and area of specialty can affect the staff views on the degree of conformity of their information needs with available library resources. It is suggested that: 1) new services such as SDI and Current Awareness Services should be established; 2) studies be conducted to determine the level of agreement of available library resources and services with the current standards, and 3) need analysis surveys should be performed regularly among academic staff to update library’s knowledge of their information needs.

This article reports the second part of the findings of a research study conducted during 1377/1998 - 1378/1999 academic year to pin down problems experienced by Shahid Chamran University students vis-a-vis their leisure times. This article concentrates only on problems. The statistical population of this study consisted of all the students enrolled at SCU in the said academic year. Research sample consisted of 700 students selected by simple random sampling procedure. The data- gathering instrument consisted of a researcher- made questionnaire whose items were gleaned from previous research findings and opinions contributed by the students. The reliability of this instrumernt was calculated to be .95 using test/re-test and Cronbach’s alpha methods. The validity of this instrument was determined by referring to expert views and students’ opinions. Factor analysis method, ANOVA, and t-test were used to analyze the dala. Factor analysis categorized the data around four factors: 1) socio- cultural factor, 2) psychological! motivational factor, 3) family factor, and 4) economic factor. These factors explained 27.8%, 16%, 8.6% and 6.76% of the variance of leisure time problems, respectively (totally 54%). Findings indicate that socio- cultural problems top the students’ prolems. Lack of facilities and university’s failure to offer desirable programs, socio-political limitations are among the main problems under factor No 1. Factors 2-4 underline dormitory life, familial responsibilities, esp. poverty and high cost of living, as students’ major problems.

This study was conducted to realize two aims: 1) to identifi the spectrum of Shahid Chamran University students’ leisure- time activities, and 2) to survey how leisure- times are spent considering factors such as gender, socioeconomic status, field of study, academic performance, place of residince (on vs off campus) and place of birth of students. The statistical population of this study consisted of all students admitted to the University in 1378 (1999), from whom a sample of 640 students (300 male 340 female) were randomly selected The research data were gathered by using a purpose- designed questionnaire on the basis of students’ opinion survey. It was tested on 60 students before the final version was arrived at. The research data covers a wide range of activities extending from various sport activities to watching TV, reading for pleasures etc. Statistical tests show meaningful differences between male and female students across various activities with regard to both the kinds of activities and time devoted to them. Socio- economic status is also a source of some meaningful differences, particularly distinguishing between the interests of high vs low economic status students. Field of study, academic performance and place of living also demonstrated important differences. Female, students seem to face limitations regarding both leisure time facilities and access to them. On the basis of the data a number of suggestions have been made to improve conditions.

This study attempts to investigate the use of foreign journals by graduate students at Shahid Chamran and Medical Sciences Universities of Ahvaz libraries. It also tries to find out why students use other university libraries to meet their information needs. This study also attempts to determine the problems of graduate students at Shahid Chamran and Medical Sciences Universities of Ahvaz in obtaining foreign scientific articles. The population of this study comprised of 1800 graduate students at the two universities of which 68 were randomly selected as the sample. Based on the results of the study, the most important problems of students in this regard are respectively, as follows: Inadequate printed resources, lack of proper computer facilities, lack of relevant abstract and index journals, time constraints, unfamiliarity with the ways of accessing information resources, restrict library regulations, and inability in using the present resources and facilities.
