Tool studies were conducted on two random samples of Ahvaz POWs to examine the relationship of some precaptivity, and postcaptivity variables with posttraumatic a stress disorder (PTSD). The first sample consisted of 84 and the second of 79 Ss. Two objectives were pursued in the first study. On the one hand, we were interested in determining the sample and multiple correlation coefficients of the precaptivity, and captivity variables with PTSD. On the other hand, we wanted to compare the mmpi psychological profiles of POWs with low and high PTSD. In the second study, in addition to the two previous objectives, we wanted to determine the simple and multiple correlations of the postcaptivity variables read PTSD.
In the first study, three of the precaptivity variables showed significant correlations with PTSD, while none of these variables in the second study exhibitted significant correlations. Of the 10 captivity variables, five were significantly correlated with PTSD in both studies. Furthermore, two other different variables in the first study, and one variable in the second study, also showed significant correlations with PTSD. Of the twelve postcaptivity variables in the second study, only three showed significant correlations with PTSD. The three sets of postcaptivity, captivity, and poscaptivity variables, as well as their combinations, also showed significant multiple correlations with PTSD. The mmpi psychological profiles of POWs with high and low PTSD, where initially different, but eliminating the effects of L, K, and F validity scales vanished these differences completely.
